RECREATION:

As a management tool, offenders are afforded the opportunity for exercise and relaxation, in terms of appropriate time, adequate space and equipment, on a planned and supervised basis.

* Recreational activities such as basketball, handball, or volleyball often take place in gymnasiums or outdoor recreation yards.

* Programs in general population housing areas are equipped with game tables and chairs for engaging in table games like checkers or television viewing.

* Libraries and craft shops are available for less energetic activities like reading and research, leatherwork, and other craft hobbies.

These activities are provided with constant consideration to the types of offenders, classification, medical restrictions and/or other security factors that could be unique to each individual facility.
